INGEAR@school
Information
Human rights abuse - child labour - wars - turmoil and riots - child soldiers - poverty. All of us are confronted with these and similar topics in the media every day - also the youngest amongst us. There is no news broadcast without coverage about global trouble spots.
Very often, however, pupils lack a deeper understanding and the background knowledge to handle and understand the daily information flood. And teachers simply lack the time to fit these explosive, literally world-shaking topics in overloaded curriculums.
This is when INGEAR sets in!
Interest
As an organisation that sustainably supports partner projects in countries of the Global South, we made it our mission to inform as many people as possible and to raise interest in our activities. Children and teenagers especially, our future, should be sensitized to the topics mentioned above. The earlier people look into a subject, the more likely it is that they will spot problems themselves and take action to find a solution. In order to raise pupils' interest in the battle against poverty, in order to render identification possible, our school projects concentrate mainly on phenomena that put children or teenagers in the centre of attention.
Our concept is activity-oriented: the pupils get engaged with the topics themselves (via readings, short films etc. + a consecutive reflection and discussion + the production of posters etc.) and thus intensely look into the subjects under educational guidance.
We want to motivate children, not just to know about the battle against poverty, but to actively "live" it. Together with the pupils we want to find out how they personally can contribute.
Commitment
This is why it is so important to us, to work out strategies with the pupils that help them make a difference. In terms of sustainability it is ideal when pupils come up with self-initiated follow-up projects (as for example the primary school Volksschule Eichendorf with their snack sale during lunch break and the reading bee). The pupils are not supposed to take part in obligatory events that are forced upon them. They should rather creatively and independently plan and conduct their own projects on a voluntary basis and with the support from teachers and INGEAR. Thus they can experience that it is possible to make their own contribution. Having said that, it is not essential for us that our own partner projects are being supported. The pupils are supposed to critically look into subjects and decide themselves where the money is needed most, when they decide they want to take action. It should be in the centre to get across our philosophy: we exclusively support partner projects where we have personal contact, hardly any administration fees and a maximum of transparency - so that every cent goes where it is needed most.
